Terms of service
Last updated [DATE]
These terms govern your use of LegalMatch. By submitting a matter or creating an account you accept them. Please read clause 2 in particular — it explains what we are and what we are not.
01Who these terms are with
LegalMatch is operated by [REGISTERED ENTITY NAME], registered office [ADDRESS], [CIN]. “We” means that company; “you” means the person using the platform, whether as a client or as an advocate.
02What we are, and what we are not
We are not a law firm and we do not practise law. We do not give legal advice, legal opinions or representation, and nothing on this platform should be relied on as advice.
We are an intermediary that connects members of the public with independent advocates enrolled with a State Bar Council in India. Each advocate is solely responsible for the advice they give and the work they do. We are not responsible for the quality or outcome of that work.
No advocate–client relationship is created by using this platform. It begins only when you and an advocate agree terms directly with each other. Until then, nobody is acting for you, and no limitation period or deadline in your matter is being managed by anyone.
Nothing on this site is an advertisement or solicitation by any advocate. We publish no advocate’s name, firm or photograph on any public page.
03Matching
When you describe a matter, we produce a shortlist using recorded rules that weigh area of law, jurisdiction, experience, fee band and urgency. A member of our team reviews every shortlist before you see it and may reorder it or assign an advocate manually.
Advocates cannot pay to appear higher in a shortlist. Position comes from the recorded rules and our team’s review, and we will tell you which factors put a particular advocate in front of you if you ask.
A shortlist is not a recommendation, an endorsement, or a statement that any advocate is suitable for your matter. Choosing an advocate is your decision.
04Fees and payment
- Submitting a matter and receiving a shortlist are free.
- Consultation and engagement fees are set by the advocate and shown to you before you book. You confirm the fee with the advocate at the consultation.
- Our fee is [PERCENTAGE] of the engagement, shown as a separate line on every invoice. It is never deducted without being disclosed.
- Document templates are a fixed price per template, shown before purchase.
- Payments in India are taken by Razorpay; international and USD payments by Stripe. Their terms apply to the payment itself.
05Refunds and disputes
If a consultation does not happen because the advocate did not attend, you are refunded in full. Where work has begun, refunds are considered case by case; write to [SUPPORT EMAIL] and our team will review it, normally within [NUMBER] working days.
Document templates are delivered immediately on payment and are [REFUND POSITION FOR TEMPLATES].
A dispute about the advice or the conduct of an advocate is between you and that advocate, and may also be raised with the relevant State Bar Council. We will help with the record of what happened on the platform, but we cannot adjudicate professional conduct.
06Your account and your documents
- Keep your sign-in details to yourself; you are responsible for activity under your account.
- Upload only documents you are entitled to share.
- Do not upload anything unlawful, or malware.
- You keep ownership of your documents. You grant us only the permission needed to store them and show them to the people you have authorised.
- Every view and download of a document is logged, and you can ask to see that log.
07For advocates on the panel
- You confirm you are enrolled with a State Bar Council and hold a current certificate of practice, and you will tell us immediately if that changes.
- You are responsible for conflict checks before accepting a matter.
- Your profile is anonymised and must be approved by our team before it is shown. You confirm the information in it is true.
- You will respond to enquiries within the time stated on your dashboard, or decline them.
- We may remove you from the panel for [GROUNDS], on [NOTICE PERIOD] notice.
08Availability and limits of liability
We aim to keep the platform available but do not guarantee it will be uninterrupted or error-free.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for the advice or conduct of any advocate, for the outcome of any matter, or for indirect or consequential loss. Our total liability to you is limited to [LIABILITY CAP]. Nothing here limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited.
09Ending your use
You may close your account at any time. We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms. Closing an account does not affect an engagement already agreed with an advocate, or invoices already issued.
10Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at [CITY] have exclusive jurisdiction.
